Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools in Manuscript Preparation

At CogNexus, we recognize that AI tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL, and others can play a supportive role in the scholarly writing process. However, to maintain the integrity and quality of academic publishing, authors must adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Permissible Uses of AI:

    • Improving grammar, syntax, and clarity of language.

    • Generating preliminary outlines or assisting with literature search tools.

    • Translating text or refining structure and expression.

  2. Prohibited Uses of AI:

    • Generating entire manuscripts or substantial portions without human revision.

    • Using AI to fabricate data, citations, or references.

    • Submitting AI-generated content as original scholarly work without authorial oversight.

  3. Disclosure Requirement:
Authors must disclose the use of AI tools in the Acknowledgments or Methods section of the manuscript, specifying the name of the tool and the nature of its use (e.g., "The authors used ChatGPT by OpenAI to improve the clarity of language in drafting this paper").

  4. Accountability:
Authors are fully responsible for the content of their submissions, including any parts that have been assisted by AI. The final manuscript must reflect the authors’ own intellectual work, analysis, and conclusions.

  5. Review and Evaluation:
Submissions that appear to be generated by AI without meaningful human input may be rejected during editorial or peer review, especially if they lack coherence, originality, or substantive contribution.

This policy aligns with the guidance issued by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), Elsevier, Springer Nature, and other major academic publishing bodies.

For questions about acceptable AI use, please contact the editorial office before submission.
